Even if the horse does lean into the contact, the give in the elastic mimics the hands of a good rider and encourages him to relax into the contact.
The Bungie encourages an equal contact on both reins and can be adjusted as the horse develops the right physique, muscles and shape, but does it all by encouragement rather than force.
